Level Guide: Which Class Should You Sign Up For?

Do you want professional feedback on which class would be the perfect match for you? Send a 30-second video of you dancing to David Jascha (Facebook/Instagram) and you will get immediate feedback to which class fits you best.

(PRO TIP: If you have not taken classes with David before, you should probably start with the beginner level. The reason for this is that beautiful Salsa is build on a strong technical base. If you do not have that base, everything you will learn later on won’t be a nice as you’d like it to be.)

We have 4 levels of classes. The only level that follows a specific curriculum is the beginner course. The Improver, Intermediate and Advanced classes are DIFFERENT every semester. That means you can basically repeat Improver, Intermediate or Advanced courses forever and never see the combinations of moves twice.

Only beginner and improver classes focus on the technique of the basics (such as Guapea, Dilequeno, Exhibela, Coca-Cola, etc.). From the intermediate classes, your teacher will assume that you do these figures correctly. There is not much room to correct basics on the intermediate+ classes because we need the time to explain more complex movements.

Beginner: For you who a) is completely new to Salsa or b) has taken classes before but needs to master the basics. Learning speed in beginner classes is about double from many other beginner classes. If you have taken only a beginners class in another school, you definitely want to start with our beginners class first. About 90% partner figures and 10% solo movement. You will learn all basic figures and solo steps with excellent technique. Take this class at least 1-2 semesters.

Improver: For you who have completed our beginner course. Improver courses have different combinations/figures every semester, so you can easily repeat this level forever and always learn something new. In the improver course, most figures are variations and combinations of moves you have learned in the beginner class. About 80% partner figures and 20% solo movement. Take this class least 1-3 semesters.

Intermediate: For you who has danced with us for at least 1 year. Double spins for followers. Intermediate courses have different combinations/figures every semester, so you can easily repeat this level forever and always learn something new. You need to be able to maintain the rhythm confidently. About 70% partner figures and 30% solo movement. Take this class at least 2-4 semesters.

Advanced: You will be told when you’re ready! This class is very technical with double or triple spins for followers. Fast & complex Cuban Salsa music is played in class. Long combinations where not much time will be spend on explaining basic leading and following. Advanced courses have different combinations/figures every semester, so you can easily repeat this level forever and always learn something new. You need to be able to maintain the completely on your own. About 50% partner figures and 50% solo movement. Take this class for the rest of your life.
